1. "Rēzekne – Latgales sirds" (Rezekne – the heart of Latgale)

It is the guidebook for tourists about Rezekne with the tourism routes of surroundings. The first edition – by tourism bureau of Ministry of the Internal Affairs (1936), the second – the publishing house of Latgalian Culture Centre (1995, the editor: Valentīna Unda, the designer: Lūcija Gadzina; edition of copies: 3000 in Latvian language).

The main facts about history of Latgale and Rezekne are included in the guidebook and some routes in Rezekne, as well as its surroundings and Latgale are widely described. For the convenience of the readers in the second edition of the guidebook the names of streets and the addresses of hotels, cafes and shops are indicated in 1995. Several interesting facts on building capacity in Rezekne in the 30s last century are summarized in the edition.

2. "Rēzekne. Резекне" (Rezekne)

It is the set of 16 colour picture cards about Rezekne with the exclusive value, because it has rare photos of the town from 1964. For example, there can be seen the previous building of department store “Rezekne”, houses of 1stMay Street (now the Alley of Delivery), cinema “Rezekne” (now the culture house of National Societies), hotel “Latgale” (now hotel “Kolonna Hotel Rezekne”).

3. "Rēzekne" (Rezekne)

The significant part of the book is devoted to the description of revolution fights and movement of partisans. However, the value of the book is hidden in the detailed record of city enterprises in the 70s last century. Also the photos of those times are interesting, e.g. the interior of café “Rēzna” or new building of post office. Interesting and little known facts are described in the book (e.g. in 1959 only 620 telephones were in the city, but in 1971 their number grew to more than 3000).

4. „Septiņkalne”, Rēzeknei – 700 (Seven hills, Rezekne – 700 years old)

The book is devoted to Rezekne’s 700 jubilees. The book has large information about the history of the city, its revolutionary past. The especial attention is paid to the description of Rezekne in the 80s 20th century (the biggest enterprises, indicators of the work, the achievements of the national economy, the development of the culture). The book contains the information on several most popular townsmen – musicians, teachers, artists, potters, doctors. It has interesting black-and-white pictures that depict the life in the town in 80s, e.g. the opening of the Latgalian ceramic exhibition in Moscow in 1982.

5. „Rēzeknei – 700” (Rezekne – 700 years old)

The photo album. The author of the text: Uldis Vētra, Riga, the publishing house “Avots”, 1985. The designer: Uldis Sosnovskis. Edition of copies: 20 000. In Latvian and Russian.

The photo album sums up the encyclopaedic news on surrounding geography, socially economical and political city life during the centuries, industrial development and agriculture at Soviet time and achievements in education and culture. The album contains the reproductions from the Vladimirs Nikonovs’ collection of city nature sceneries published in the beginning of 20th century. There are also many photos with the city nature sceneries in different seasons. Several photos have the industrial objects on them. The separate chapter is devoted to Latgalian ceramic.

6. „Rēzekne” (Rezekne)

The author: Regīna Hahele. Riga, the publishing house “Avots”, 1985. The colored pictures by O.Melngalvis and J.Eglītis. The design by A.Kalnača. Edition of copies: 25 000. In Latvian and Russian.

The book was published in Rezekne anniversary. The first part “The pages of history” sums up the information about the formation of the city and historical development from the 9th century to 1944. In addition, the special attention is paid to the history of revolutionary movement and the action of underground communist and komsomol organizations.

The second part is devoted to the industrial development of the city, giving information about the biggest enterprises in Rezekne, building capacities in the beginning of the 80s. The edition has the information on educational establishments as well as the survey of Rezekne culture life.

The third part sums up the information on Rezekne most remarkable places and sightseeing routes. There can be found the description of several excursion routes for the guests.

7. „Rēzekne senajās atklātnēs” (Rezekne depicted on the old postcards)

The author of the text and compiler: Vladimirs Nikonovs. Rēzekne, the publishing house “Avots”, 1986. The author of the book cover: artist Pāvuls Ostapcevs. Edition of copies: 25 000. In Latvian, Russian and English.

In 1894 the first time in Russia illustrative postcards were published, but in the beginning of last century the scene cards became popular. In those days the first postcards with scenes from Režica (official name of Rezekne until 1922) were published. 18 postcards were in the set with the reproduction of Rezekne scenes. Initially, (1902-1916) they were published by local and Moscow’s publishers (the postcards from the collection of Vladimirs Nikonovs).

8. “Piemineklis un laiks” (The monument and the time)

The collection of the materials about the monument of Latgale deliverance. It was compiled and commented by Irēna Vilčuka. Rēzekne, 1992. The designer: Pēteris Gleizdāns. Edition of copies: 5000. In Latvian and Latgalian.

The edition sums up the information about the creation and renewal of monument “United for Latvia”. The big part of material is the articles that were published from 1930 to 1992 in Latgalian newspapers. The compilation has rare documents about the competition on the best sketches and construction of the monument as well as many photos and various sketches of the monument.
 

9. „Rēzekne” (Rezekne)

The booklet “Rezekne” has “visiting card”, information about the climate, history, famous places, churches, monuments and places of commemoration as well as city life, its educational, cultural and economical life has been described there. The information is structured and concise.

10. „Rēzekne retrospektīvā” (Rezekne in retrospective)

The author: Aleksandrs Grodzickis, the editor: Sergejs Družiņins, the consultant: Raimonds Olehno. Rezekne, 1996. Photos by A.Grodzickis and A .Smirnovs from their personal archives. Edition of copies: 2500. In Russian.

It is historical view towards the endured and survived events, view “from insight” by eyes of observers – all this is in the book, published by Aleksandrs Grodzickis, citizen of Rezekne. It is not strictly documental book but personal subjective estimation of city life and fate. As it is told in the introduction of the book, A.Grodzickis’ mosaic of memories helps to see the historical features of the city in social retrospective preventing from lapse in the ocean of merciless time. Rare photos of Rezekne that were taken from TV tower in 1962 are published in the book.

11. „Rēzekne kabatā” (Rezekne in the pocket)

“Our desire is that you would get to know Rezekne as efficient meeting centre, student city, place, where international festivals and competitions take place. It is Rezekne that cannot be put into the pocket, but our hearts belong to it.” Short information and photos of most remarkable sightseeing objects in Rezekne are adduced in the booklet. There is little concrete information; however this edition is interesting with its design and peculiar style of material representation.

12. “No Rēzeknes medicīnas vēstures” (From the history of Rezekne medicine)

The author: Veronika Grišāne. The publishing house of Latgalian culture centre, 1996. The editor: Valentīna Unda. Edition of copies: 1000. In Latvian.

In the introduction the author writes that she has tried to follow the development of medicine in Rezekne and Rezekne district according to the  historical cut – from the end of 18th century to 1990. While systemizing the materials she found out the tragically fate of doctors. Veronika Grišāne considers that the past, thereto rather tragically past, should be regarded as testimony to the future generations since the terror must not be repeated. The book gives the statistics, facts as well as the memories about medicine and doctors in Rezekne.

13. „Rēzekne. Vēsturiskie apraksti no seniem laikiem līdz 1917. gadam” (Rezekne. The historical description from ancient times to 1917.)

The book describes the history of Rezekne city that became the geographical, cultural and traffic centre of Latgale. The period of described time follows from 12th century until the 20s 20th century, when in the place of present city there was Latgalian castle. The author overlooks the wide range of issues: the economical life of the city, the authority, construction, social and cultural life, education and religion. The book is illustrated with the last century photos with the sceneries of different city sights from the collection of the author.

14. “Rēzekne septiņos stāstos” (Rezekne in seven stories)

It is affluently illustrated and magnificent book about Rezekne history and nowadays in seven stories. The first one: “The preserver of Rose wealth” is short historical overview. The second – “The city of gardens, steeples and waters” tells about Rezekne as ancient, peculiar, greenish city to show to the visitors. In the third story – “Laborious Rezekne” is given short information on economy, largest enterprises, and activities of Rezekne Special Economic Zone in the first years of 21st century. “Rezekne in the knowledge hill” is the story about sport and educational system in Rezekne, but the fifth story “Rezekne in steeples, bells, traditions” tells about the different cultures in Rezekne, their coexistence, traditions and belief. The sixth story “Rezekne in colours and lines” – is about ceramics, museum and our artists.  And finally, the seventh story “Rezekne – the city of future” reveals the future vision of the city.

 

15. “Rēzekne. Veltījums dzimtajai pilsētai…” (Rezekne. The dedication to native city …)

It is the set of 16 pictures where the most remarkable places of Rezekne (churches, monument “United for Latvia”, House of Art, castle hill), scenery from bird’s eyesight, Rezekne University, Culture House are shown. The picture set is supplemented with short city description. There are included photos by Rezekne photographers who took part in the City Council’s competition on best photo of Rezekne in 2004.

16. „Rēzekne – vakar un šodien” (Rezekne – yesterday and today)

The author: Aleksandrs Grodzickis. Rezekne, SIA “Poligrāfserviss”, 2005. The literal editor: the professor of Daugavpils University Leonīds Cilevičs.

The hero of the book – Rezekne – is the author’s native city. The book tells about personalities that represent different ethnical, social, professional and age groups. The book comes up with close-up portraits of the following persons: Ivans Siņicins (patron and a businessman), Jurijs Tiņanovs (a scientist – philologist and a writer), Leonīds Nolde (a writer), Staņislavs Kerbedza (an engineer), Nikolajs Bogdanovs-Beļskis (a painter), Francisks Varslavāns (an artist).

17. “Neparastais ikdienišķajā Rēzeknē” (The extraordinary in everyday Rezekne)

Rezekne, SIA “Latgales druka”, 2005. The publisher: Rezekne City Council. The manager: Marina Sokolova. Edition of copies: 1000. In Latvian, Russian and English.

It has photos from competitions "Dedication to the native city" and "The extraordinary in everyday Rezekne" as well as photos from the archive of the City Council. The fresh breeze is children’s paintings from the competition "The extraordinary in everyday Rezekne". The city is described with the following slogans – "United forever", "The ancient", "The divine", "The city with the history", "Young forever", "The businesslike" that are used as the titles for chapters in the booklet. The booklet has the city map, information on possible meal places, rest places and places to stay overnight.
