Rezekne City Council is the elected representation of the citizens, which provides the execution of functions, tasks and voluntary initiatives of municipality determined by the laws with the help of different institutions and establishments.

The most significant task of every municipality is to organize public utilities for the inhabitants, to take care of the improvement and sanitary neatness of the administrative territory, to provide the education for the inhabitants, to take care of culture and foster the preservation of culture values and the development of the people’s art. The municipality provides the approachability of the health care as well as facilitates the healthy life style of the inhabitants, provides the social care, enables the entrepreneurship, takes care of public policy, determines the order of the land usage and up-building as well as does other tasks.
